Nature needs YOUR land ethic!

Whether you're inspired by Leopold's legacy, hankering for modern conservation stories and land ethics in action, or just plain curious what we’re all about, there's something for you in The Outlook.
Grounded in the American conservation movement, we aim to inspire folks to treat land as a community to which we all belong. The Outlook is among our largest digital platforms and a key tool for our foundation to spread Leopold’s message of respect and care for the earth into the modern world.
By signing up for this free, bimonthly e-newsletter, you'll be the first to know about our upcoming Land Ethic® Live! events—virtual programs featuring renowned authors, artists, influencers, and other conservation changemakers. Past guests have included Robin Wall Kimmerer, Delia Owens, Nick Offerman, Ed Yong, and Amy Tan. We've reached audiences from all 50 states and over 55 countries, bringing people across the globe together in conversation about land ethics.
The Outlook also stays true to Leopold with thoughtful essays and written reflections on human-land relationships. In each issue, we feature a recent blog post from our website. Many of these are written by our Future Leaders Fellows, recent grads who are immersed in the landscapes of A Sand County Almanac over the course of a year and cultivate their own land ethics. Expect everything from historical deep-dives and reports from the field to stewardship experiments, phenology notes, and personal introspection—whatever Leopold grappled with or rejoiced over, so we continue to do today.
In addition, you'll learn the variety of ways you can support us, from one-time or recurring donations to estate gifts and more. Did you know your purchases from the Marshland Market also fund our work? Keep up with the newest items available in our store, including books, calendars, apparel, and other merchandise, all while furthering our mission and helping spread the land ethic.
For an extra dose of positivity amidst all the world's heaviness, every so often we throw in a little “fun-dation”: quizzes, crosswords, trivia, or a goofy social media post. Test your knowledge of A Sand County Almanac, Leopold's life history, sandhill cranes, and more. A little uplift in service of the land and each other is always a good thing.
Above all, our goal is to nurture a community united by an ethic of care for the land. And, as Leopold famously wrote in the closing essay of A Sand County Almanac, "The Outlook":
“Nothing so important as an ethic is ever 'written'…. It evolves in the minds of a thinking community.”
Help evolve the land ethic and join our growing thinking community today.
